OUR STORY IN SHORT
As a husband and wife raised in a conservative Protestant environment where faith was often encouraged more than questions being welcomed, this approach became a significant obstacle for us. Our deep desire to seek truth and understanding led to many unanswered questions, and a confusing journey followed. Hennie eventually became agnostic, while Melissa stayed true to her faith but also faced many unanswered questions and doubts along the way. She struggled to understand why her husband’s sincere search for truth took a different path.
This struggle and uncertainty lasted for years. But then something unexpected and profound happened—a clear and decisive turning point that led us to explore Catholic teachings. These teachings provided the answers we had been searching for, not only suitable for Catholics but also valuable and meaningful from a Protestant perspective. Coming from a Protestant background helped us make sense of these new and unfamiliar teachings—not as mere tradition, but as answers we genuinely sought. This perspective allowed us to appreciate the depth and clarity these teachings offered in a way that resonated with our experience.
Now, inspired by this experience and grace, we want to help others facing similar questions and uncertainty —whether from any Christian denomination, atheist, agnostic, or anyone else—to find meaningful answers that bring peace of mind and strengthen their own spiritual journeys. Our story is not about promoting any one path, but about sharing a journey of honest searching and discovery of truth.
OUR GOAL AND APPROACH
We feel called by the Lord to share our journey and help others see their questions in perspective. Asking questions is, we believe, a powerful way to deepen faith and grow in understanding of God. We also see science, human knowledge, and faith as companions when approached with openness and clarity. These insights are what we wish to share, guiding others toward spiritual growth and understanding.
As devout Catholics with a long Protestant background—and with Hennie’s years of being agnostic and exploration, research, and reflection—we offer a unique perspective. This blend of experiences helps us connect with people across Christian denominations as well as those without religious affiliation. Our aim is to help others find meaningful answers to life’s difficult questions about the world and creation.
We believe faith, reason, and science exist in harmony, each strengthening the other. By sharing our journey, we hope to offer clarity, hope, and a sense of fulfilment. Our prayer is that this story inspires and encourages others to grow deeper and stronger in their own faith.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We are Catholic Christians with decades of Protestant background; in fact, Hennie was agnostic for many years before returning to faith. Although we are now Catholic, our family and many of our closest friends remain Protestant, and we believe that by learning from one another, we all deepen our faith.
We are strong supporters of the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification, a historic agreement signed in 1999 by the Catholic Church, the Lutheran World Federation, and later the World Methodist Council, the Anglican Communion, and the World Communion of Reformed Churches. Together, these communities represent the majority of Protestants worldwide. This document marks a miraculous turning point in Christian history: it brings churches of different Christian traditions together in proclaiming a unified message of salvation, bridging centuries-old divisions, and fostering unity across denominations.
We are equally enthusiastic about the ongoing efforts between the Orthodox and Catholic churches, who now recognise one another as "sister churches." Over time, their teachings and shared traditions continue to draw closer together, strengthening Christian unity.
Altogether, these ecumenical movements bring about 90% of Christians worldwide into closer relationship as part of one, unified Christian family. While differences remain, we see them as opportunities for dialogue and growth—ways to strengthen and enrich everyone’s faith. Above all, we firmly believe that all Christians, regardless of denomination, are brothers and sisters who worship the same Jesus Christ, and who will one day rejoice together in His presence.
